FOUNDATIONS
Moving with Math® FOUNDATIONS is the most comprehensive intervention program in the Moving with Math family, covering all math objectives for Grades 1 through 8+. Organized into four levels, each with 3 to 5 topics, teachers may cover all topics within a level for a comprehensive intervention experience or focus on specific math topics for targeted remediation. This flexibility makes it ideal for RTI/MTSS Tier 2 and Tier 3, resource rooms, extended day programs, and summer math.
FOUNDATIONS is designed to meet the needs of MTSS intervention systems with the intensity and structure required for struggling students, it gives teachers the most complete toolkit for closing the achievement gap. You can find a list of topics by level in the FOUNDATIONS Program Resource section below.

Grades 1- 8+
Aligned with NCTM, CCSS and State Standards.
Available in English and Spanish.
FOUNDATIONS Program Features

Organized Learning System Empowers Teachers
FOUNDATIONS uses the Moving with Math® Learning System to provide teachers with an organized and systematic process to raise achievement for all students. It is easy to use and streamlines classroom management, integrating standards-aligned assessments to direct data-driven, differentiated instruction, giving teachers more time to focus on the engaging Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) lessons proven to improve student understanding and academic performance.
Universal Screening
The program uses age-appropriate Pre and Post-Test assessments taken online or paper/pencil that quickly identify students’ needs and direct objective-based instruction for individual students and the class.
Summative progress monitoring is integrated into the Learning System to support continuous data-driven instruction and ensure student understanding.

Research-Based CRA Instruction
Explicit CRA instruction begins every lesson with hands-on manipulatives to help children understand and make sense of math concepts. Research shows CRA instruction is effective and well-suited for young minds, enabling them to physically explore, discover, and communicate essential math concepts while developing problem-solving skills every day.
Lesson Plans Provide Daily Professional Development and Promote Teaching Excellence
Comprehensive, lightly scripted lesson plans integrate proven instructional strategies based on early childhood education research to guide hands-on manipulative activities for every concept, ensuring access for all young learners. Lesson plans save prep time, help teachers lead engaging hands-on activities, differentiate instruction, monitor progress and set students up for success.

“The mathematical background of the teacher is the number one in classroom predictor of student success.”
Effects of Teachers’ Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching on Student Achievement - 2005

Integrates Literacy and Language Acquisition
Read to Me activities in many of the lesson plans creatively weave children’s stories into the curriculum to build vocabulary, connect math to the real world and make it fun.
Oral language skills are strengthened through small-group activities that enhance comprehension and apply math in real-world contexts, fostering curiosity and reducing anxiety for students.
Games
Nothing lights up a child’s face like telling them it’s time to play a game.
Games utilizing a variety of manipulatives give students a fun way to reinforce understanding, establish fluency, build vocabulary and language skills, and foster community with peers.

Continuous Progress Monitoring
Daily Reviews and Check Points assess progress and identify reteaching needs. They also support long-term retention by continuously spiraling and reviewing previously learned objectives. In addition to integrated summative assessments, FOUNDATIONS lesson plans include a variety of formative assessment options to monitor fluency and gather evidence of mastery of objectives.
Family Engagement
Family Math Connections booklets, available in English and Spanish, provide an important link between school and home, sharing students’ academic progress with parents and guardians. Booklets include activities that encourage family members to participate in their child’s math development and support them as they discover a road to success.

What our customers are saying
Mr. Sean Healy outlined their district’s efforts and their partnership with Math Teachers Press. His teachers loved that “Moving with Math provides concrete activities for difficult concepts in an easy to understand format and that students learn to represent and mode the abstract math to promote deeper understanding.” When asked about his teacher’s favorite lessons he said “Most of the fraction lessons, especially at the younger grades, get rave reviews. Students being able to see what a fraction really is and compare different fractions with the models, both the circles and the bars, is very powerful.”
