January 22, 2018 Ms. Caryl Kelly Pierson Moving with Math Dear Ms. Pierson My name is Penny Waldman and I am a Special Educator for San Jose Unified School District. Currently, I am an RSP teacher servicing 23 students from kindergarten to fifth grade. I learned about Moving with Math when I was an aide to an RSP teacher seven years ago. The success of this program is evidenced in my students learning, recall, and confidence. Moving with Math is perfect for my students learning because the books are divided into different content areas. Each book is explained step by step so that the students have a clear understanding of the lesson. The enthusiasm they demonstrate when acquiring mastery of the concept is rewarding! In Special Education teachers must review concepts in math repeatedly until they have mastered the concept. In MWM, the concepts are reviewed and applied in such a way that the students remember and learn the new concept. In summary, Moving with Math is a great program for students to acquire and maintain understanding of math concepts. The step-by-step instructions make mastery fun and engaging to my students. “I am good at math now!” “I can do this problem by myself!” “I am learning, I remember and I feel great!” These are a few of the remarks students have made when they learn.
