D1 Standards 43 The Diagnostic-Prescriptive System The diagnostic-prescriptive system is based on the results of the Pre-and Post-Tests found inside the teacher kit, Math Capsules . The number of each problem on the Pre-Test matches the number of the objective being tested. After teachers administer and correct these tests, the results can be recorded on an individual record sheet or class record sheet. Teachers mark an X in the box under the number of each problem missed on the Pre-Test. The completed record sheet can be used to identify unmastered objectives within each level and prescribe the matching pages for each objective. Level D1: Number, Problem Solving & Data teaches objectives 1–10, 42–45, and 57 in Level D. The objectives and teaching pages are listed in this table. Numeration Objectives D-1 Know the signs and names used in the four basic operations. D-2 Complete a true statement using the number properties: commutative, associative, distributive, identity and inverse properties for addition and multiplication. D-3 Define and identify prime and composite numbers. Write the prime factors for numbers ≤ 20 and list the factors of a number. D-4 Identify the place value of, read, write, compare and order numbers ≤ 12 digits. D-5 Round numbers ≤ 7 digits to any place. D-6 Give the value of and write an exponential expression in factored form and vice versa. D-42 Give the value of and write an exponential expression in factored form and vice versa. D-57 Write numbers in scientific notation and standard form. Whole Number Operations and Problem Solving Objectives D-7 Add numbers up to 6 digits of the same or varying lengths. D-8 Subtract numbers up to 6 digits of the same or varying lengths. D-9 Multiply a 3- or 4-digit number by 2- or 3-digit number. Multiply by powers of 10 and multiples of 10. D-10 Divide a 4- or 5-digit number by a 2- or 3-digit number. Divide numbers by multiples of 10. D-43 Solve a 1- or 2-step word problem using whole numbers, fractions or decimals. D-44 Use rounding to determine a reasonable estimate in problem solving. D-45 Find the mean, median and mode of whole numbers, decimals, fractions or percent. Data (not tested) D-67 Know various forms of display for data sets, including box and whisker plots or stem and leaf graphs. Use the forms to compare data, compute the minimum, the median, the upper quartile and the maximum of a data set. D-68 Collect organize, display and interpret data in a variety of forms including line plots and bar graphs. Interpret and construct histograms. D-70 Collect data involving two variables and display on a scatter plot; interpret results as positive, negative or no relationship.
