C1 Standards 39 Numeration Objectives C-1 Identify the place value up to a 12-digit number. Includes writing a whole number in expanded notation. Write standard numerals as Roman numerals and vice versa. Estimate number of objects in a set. C-2 Read, write, order and compare numbers up to 12 digit numbers. C-3 Round a 4- or 5-digit number to the nearest thousand. C-4 Identify prime and composite numbers and the factors of numbers up to 100. Find the greatest common factor of the numbers 1 to 20. Find rules of divisibility for 2’s, 3’s and 5’s. Find the square or cube of a number ≤ 10 in exponential form. C-5 Find a missing number using the commutative or associative property of multiplication or the distributive property. Perform mental computations with 2-digit whole numbers. Whole Number Objectives C-6 Add numbers up to 6 digits of the same or varying lengths in vertical or horizontal formats. Check for computational errors. Identify math terms: sum, addend, plus. Select operation or strategy to estimate, solve and justify the solution to a word problem. C-7 Subtract numbers up to 6 digits including regrouping across zero. Identify terms: difference, minuend, sums and subtrahend, minus, less. Check subtraction by addition. Select operation or strategy to estimate, solve and justify the solution to a word problem. C-8 Multiply a 3- or 4-digit number by a 2- or 3-digit number. Select operation or strategy to solve a problem and justify the solution. Estimate and solve word problems using various strategies. Identify terms: product, multiplicand, multiplier. Multiply by powers of ten and multiples of 10 and 100. Check for reasonableness of results. Find the multiples and least-common multiple of the numbers 1 to 12. C-9 Divide a 4-, 5-, or 6-digit number by a 1-digit number. Identify terms: quotient, dividend, divisor and the three symbols for division. Check for reasonableness of results. C-10 Divide a 4-digit number by a 2-digit number, including division by 10, 100 or 1000. Check division by multiplication. Problem Solving Objectives C-44 Find the missing number in patterns using sums, differences, products or geometric models. Build simple functions using concrete models and generate a corresponding rule. Solve function problems involving two steps. Graph functions on a coordinate grid. C-45 Use a 5-step plan to estimate and solve 1- or 2-step word problems with whole numbers, fractions, decimals. Select the strategy or method and justify the solution. Translate phrases and word problems to algebraic expressions or open-number sentences. Solve simple linear equations and use the rule for the order of operations with parentheses to solve multi-step problems. Identify integers as representations for problem solving situations. C-46 Find the average of 3 to 5 whole numbers, decimals or money amounts in problem solving situations. C-49 Estimate sums and differences of numbers up to and including 4 digits. C-50 Estimate products of 2-digit by 3-digit numbers and the quotients of 4-digit dividends and 2-digit divisors. The Diagnostic-Prescriptive System The diagnostic-prescriptive system is based on the results of the Pre-and Post-Tests found inside the teacher kit, Math Capsules . The number of each problem on the Pre-Test matches the number of the objective being tested. After teachers administer and correct these tests, the results can be recorded on an individual record sheet or class record sheet. Teachers mark an X in the box under the number of each problem missed on the Pre-Test. The completed record sheet can be used to identify unmastered objectives within each level and prescribe the matching pages for each objective. Level C1: Numeration & Problem Solving with Whole Numbers teaches objectives 1–10, 45, 46,49, and 50 in Level C. The objectives and teaching pages are listed in this table.
